Rachel C. Hughey Committed to Helping Local Communities Thrive.

Merchant &amp; Gould is proud to announce that partner Rachel C. Hughey was selected to join the 2020 Young American Leaders Program based on her professional successes and extensive civic engagement.&nbsp; Rachel joins the Twin Cities Cohort, which is made up of 32 rising Twin Cities leaders from business, non-profit and government organizations who are committed to working across sectors to help their communities prosper.

Rachel is a trial attorney who specializes in intellectual property law. She has a technical background in chemical engineering and has experience in a wide variety of fields, including chemical technologies, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, mechanical devices and software. Rachel has held a variety of leadership positions at Merchant &amp; Gould, including Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, Chair of the Pro Bono Committee, and Co-Chair of the Appellate Practice Group.&nbsp;

Rachel has also held a variety of leadership positions in local and national legal organizations and nonprofits.&nbsp; Rachel is a Board member and current Board Chair of the Volunteer Lawyer’s Network, where she assists the organization in creating policies and opportunities to advance pro bono services in Minnesota. Rachel is also an active volunteer, providing pro bono legal services in areas ranging from housing to immigration to family law.&nbsp; She is also a Board member of the ACLU-MN, a member of the University of Minnesota Law School’s Board of Advisors, and a founder and President-Elect of the Honorable Jimmie V. Reyna Intellectual Property American Inn of Court.&nbsp; Rachel previously served on the Board of YouthCARE Minnesota, the Board of the Hennepin County Bar Association, and the Minnesota Law Review Alumni Advisory Board, where she was the President.&nbsp;

Rachel has also been recognized with a variety of accolades because of her legal achievements, leadership and involvement in the community, including being honored in 2016, as “40 Under 40” by the <em>Minneapolis St. Paul Business JournalMinnesota Lawyer</em>
